Upcoming Night Steam Events

The Richmond Vale Preservation Co-operative Society Ltd (RVPCSL) has over the 30 years of its operations and development at the former Colliery sites of Richmond Main and Pelaw Main endeavoured to provide a variety of events built around the features of the collieries and steam power.

The current initiative Night Steam is such an event. It provides a different ambience to the day visit and an opportunity to unwind at a catered activity. These activities are designed to have a limited number of attendees, be for adults and to provide a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.

Future events include murder nights, dinner trains, wine and cheese tastings, further themed music events such as the fifties and sixties, perhaps blues and jazz as well. Also on the agenda is to bring back specialty features such as foot plate rides and light up tours.

We also do site tours and cater for birthday parties (for adults, big kids and small) plus corporate functions, weddings, anniversaries and the like.

Black Friday, 13th January

Ghouls and goblins, black cats and bad luck will abound at Richmond Vale Railway Museum on Friday 13th, Black Friday.

Dress up in your favourite Halloween / Superstitious outfit for a night of scary fun, a haunting train ride and ghoulish food. The frights begin at 7.30 pm in the Mining Museum building. But watch out for the ghost of Athol Lightfoot, the former Manager. His ghost is believed to reside in this building.

Bring a torch to keep the spectres away and wear good walking shoes for the ghost hunt. Tickets are $10.00 per person and MUST be pre-purchased. The event is suitable for all ages, but children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

IS IT A BUNYIP OR A YOWIE? THE HUNT IS ON 20th January

Richmond Vale Railway Museum volunteers continue to report strange sounds and the feeling of being watched. One or two volunteers have even suggested that there is a bunyip or a yowie living near the drainage pond or maybe Browns dam or the forest around the former colliery.

Well known yowie mythologist Hummer M. Brainslow has confirmed that the area is suitable habitat for these creatures and has asked that a search be undertaken (for scientific purposes of course!). To resolve this matter and to get the frightened volunteers back to work, the board of the RVRM has decided to organise a hunt for this creature. To maximise the chance of a favourable result a reward of $25 will be offered to the two most successful parent and child teams

Children are a must because [as professor Brainslow pointed out] their eyes are better attuned to see such creatures especially at night.

The hunt will take place at the Richmond Main and Pelaw Main Colliery sites on Friday 20th January. Intending participants should be onsite ready for a briefing session from the mythologist and head yowie tracker at 8:30pm at the mining museum at the former Richmond Main Colliery administration building. PLEASE NOTE THAT TICKETS MUST BE PRE PURCHASED.
