Held on Saturday 28th - Sunday 29th April 2011, Hunter Valley Steamfest means steam trains, diesel trains, miniature trains, tin hares, railway lines, tiger moths, stationary engines, steam rollers, food, photography, stalls, street entertainment: it also means lots and lots of people looking for rides, train experiences, fun, entertainment and a good day out for themselves, family and friends.
Some of these experiences can be gained at Richmond Vale Railway Museum, which is found at the end of a free, short bus trip (or you can drive there yourself). Locate the Richmond Vale Railway Museum stand at Steamfest [directly opposite the Maitland Railway Station entry] and ask for directions. Tickets for the museum can also be purchased from the stand.
Attractions include:
• Full sized train rides for families and individuals
• Guided tours of the engine shed, though entry into this building is not permitted and viewing will be from the large open doorway. Supervision of the tours is necessary for safety, security and insurance purposes [enclosed shoes must be worn by all participants]
• Souvenir shop
• Sausage sizzle
